What to do?

Accident at work

This page provides tips on how to proceed if you have had an accident at work. This also applies to accidents that happen on the way to work or on the way home from work (commuting accident).

Report work-related accidents to the employers‘ liability insurance association.

Accidents can always happen.
You are insured with the employers’ liability insurance association:

  • against accidents at work.
  • against accidents on the way to work.
  • against accidents on the way back to your accommodation.

If you are injured, go to the first aider. Then inform the foreman or the boss. If it is very bad, call the emergency doctor. Dial 112 on your phone. If an employee is absent for more than three days or dies, the company must report the accident to the employers' liability insurance association (accident report). This is mandatory in Germany.

The employers‘ liability insurance association will help you to recover quickly after an accident at work. You do not have to pay anything for this. Your employer will continue to pay your wages for six weeks. After that, you will receive an injury pension from the employers’ liability insurance association, which is slightly lower than your normal wage.
